1. What is the cost of setting up a web site?

The cost of a web site normally consists of three parts. 

  1. Domain Name: This includes what is commonly refered to as domain registration.  This cost is  yearly, and is currently $20.00.
  2. Monthly server cost:  This cost of $15.00 is used to hold your pages or domain name on a computer.  Think of it as renting space on the internet to hold your information.
  3. Design and Implementation of pages is the final cost.  Typically a web design company will create all your pages, including graphics, text, and anything else which can be displayed on the internet.

No, we currently do not build complete logo's.  We do however make changes to existing images

3. Can you purchase the domain?
Yes we can.  That is a unique feature of James River Webs.  We are a complete solution.  We can buy the domain name, establish server page and design web site all for one cost.

4. I have created my own pages, will JRW host them for us?
Although we typically do not publish pages which James River Webs creates, there are certain circumstances which we will.  These depends on type of language and technology and the complexity of the site.  In some instance a $5.00/month additional charge is added for support and maintenance.

5. I have found cheaper hosting plans, do you match the price?

It is important to realize that each hosting plan comes with many options and standards as part of the monthly charge.  These options range from multiple email accounts, data backup schedules, page security, to the amount of data which can pass from your site without being charged additional costs (known as bandwidth).  With all of these variations James River Webs, Inc. cannot guarantee matching.  However; we do offer discounts for yearly contracts.  We believe that the $15.00 /month cost coupled with the options which are offered makes this very competitive.  However; we make every effort to continue to negotiate the contracts we hold with our hosting partners to demand the lowest cost while maintaining the many options available.  If you feel that you can do better, (with the same options) we invite you to talk to us about it.

6. How do I set up an email account using outlook to pick up my site mail?
Currently James River Webs has instruction in Adobe Acrobat.  To get a copy please send us an email letting use know which operating system (XP,windows 2000, 98) and which email client (Outlook Express, Outlook, AOL, etc) you are using.  We will then send you a link to those instructions.

8. I do not understand how transactions work on the internet?
Credit Card transactions are not that difficult, however it depends on the bank and the type of charges.  In many small companies that want to sell on-line we recommend using Paypal .  However; we can work with most any banks which offer credit card online transactions.  The cost of this is only the cost of each transaction and the development time.  James River Webs does not charge any extra for this type of coding.

9. Do I have to be a local company in order to do business with JRW?
Absolutely Not.  We have customers in other states.  James River Webs can discuss the issues and options via email, web demo, phone, etc.  Typically, we will meet with you initially to discuss all the goals and options.

10. Does James River Webs, aquire digital pictures, and make graphic changes?
Yes.  We not only can take clear 3.2+ megapixel pictures, process them, and crop them to fit your needs, but we can also touch them up.  We only charge for the travel time to take the pictures.  Also, if you take the pictures and send them to us electronically we can normally work with that as well.

12. I am a small business but want to set up a marketplace on the internet, can I do it?
Absolutely.  The birth of the internet probably had the greatest effect on small businesses.  The internet allows small companies to spend a small amount on "marketing" while reaching the masses.  James River Webs can help you with your catalog, shopping carts, as well as credit card transactions.

13. Can you run server side controls?
James River Webs can not only run server side controls but also create them.  We ask that if you supply the web control, we have documentation to support the control.  We typically do not charge for running the control server on IIS.

 We use a multitude of software platforms.  These are NOT exclusive, but include .NET, Macromedia, Fireworks, Flash, Corel and a multitude of other 3rd party controls and tools.
